Job description
A Huntsville-based bankruptcy law firm, Jeffrey B. Irby, PC, has an immediate opening for the position of legal secretary. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing secretarial legal support to a bankruptcy attorney. Additionally, this position requires a commitment to timeliness, producing quality work product, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. This position requires the ability to process work quickly and work under the general supervision and direction of a Bankruptcy Attorney.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Bankruptcy Court Experience Required. Bankruptcy Court ECF System and through Alacourt.
- Prepare legal forms for attorney to draft into
- Edit legal and other documents (including correspondence, pleadings, memoranda, bills, time entries and project work) from transcription tapes, or handwritten or typed materials.
- Redact and bates stamp documents using Adobe Pro, Bankruptcy Pro, Time Matters
- Proofread and redline documents for accuracy
- Backup receptionist duties
- Setup and maintain legal files in document management system
- Help coordinate conferences, meetings, and appointments
- Calendaring and docketing
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Ability to type at least 70 words per minute with accuracy
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Proficiency in electronically filing documents in Bankruptcy and State Courts, and familiarity with the Courts’ procedures
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Thorough familiarity with legal terminology pertinent to general legal concepts
- Excellent telephone manner
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work within requested timeframes and prioritize work assignments
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, take initiative, set priorities, and see projects through completion
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks, and respond to changing priorities
- Ability to establish effective working relationships within the office and firm, with clients, vendors, and others outside the firm
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of client and office information
Educational/Job Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ideal to have a minimum of three years’ experience with strong bankruptcy law background; litigation experience is a plus, tax negotiation a plus
